Mother's Day Brunch at The Leelanau School May 13th!

The Habitat for Humanity Fundraiser Mother’s Day Brunch will again be held at The Leelanau School on Sunday, May 13th, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The National Honor Societies of Glen Lake and Leelanau School will again host the event.

Please join us for a wonderful brunch and silent auction to support Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region. Tickets are $15 per person and $10 for students.

Bass Lake Home

We are still looking for volunteers for our Thrivent Build! We are on site Monday's – Thursday's and Saturday's from 9am to 3pm. We are currently working on hanging windows, roofing and will be starting siding in the next week! We will be hosting a Women Build Day May 5th, for any woman who is interested. Spaces are limited, please sign up soon!

If you are interested in volunteering please call Mandy at 231-941-4663 Ext. 125. You must be atleast 16 to be on site and then there are special requirements for minors. Please make sure you check in with Mandy before coming to the site.

Traverse City will be hosting 300 AmeriCorps Members May 18th and 19th! There will be 17 teams helping area non profits: SEEDS, Habitat for Humanity GTR, Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy, Conservation Resource Alliance and United Way!

There will be a Celebrate Service Event to honor our special guests, the men and women of Michigan's AmeriCorps who dedicate their time to benefit our community and the entire state. This event is May 18th from 6:30pm to 9:30pm at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons! There will be live music from Steppin' In It, and a volunteer fair from local area non profits. This event is rain or shine and tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door!

National Women Build Week!

National Women Build Week will take place during May 5th- May 12th! Here are some great points about Women Build Week:

An initiative of Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program, the fifth annual National Women Build Week, sponsored by Lowe’s, challenges women to devote at least one day between May 5 and May 12 to the effort to eliminate poverty housing.
Women have the capability and determination necessary to build Habitat for Humanity houses, addressing the problem of substandard housing in a concrete way so that families have safe, decent and affordable homes.
Women Build is not about excluding men, it’s about including women so they can learn construction skills on a more inclusive construction site. More than 1,650 homes have been built by women crews in the United States, as well as in dozens of countries around the world.
Based on Christian principles, Habitat for Humanity builds homes with people in need. Habitat offers a hand up, not a hand out.

Wall Raising Ceremony

Times are tough and the construction of new homes has slowed considerably across the country. But here in Traverse City the Deik family will mark an important milestone in the construction of their new home—and the community is invited to join in on the fun! The celebration begins at 9:00am on April, 14^th 2012 at the construction site on 709 Bass Lake Road.

We will be needing volunteers Monday through Thursday and Saturday's until the end of June! If you are interested please contact Mandy at 231-941-4663 Ext. 125 or sign up online.

Thrivent Build

Habitat for Humanity Grand Traverse Region is partnering up with Thrivent Builds for Habitat and building a home on Bass Lake starting around April! We are looking for Thrivent Members, Lutheran's and any one else who would like to volunteer to build this home! It is always a fun, safe time to learn about Habitat in the community and see first hand how we build energy efficient homes!

We are currently working on roofing and are about to phase into siding the home. Please contact Mandy at 231-941-4663 Ext. 125 if you are interested in helping out with this build.

Oryana Considers Habitat GTR for Community Grant

We wanted to take this time to let you know that Oryana is considering Habitat GTR for a Community Grant. It is now up to Oryana Members to do the voting in the store to which grant they want to be funded. We are asking all Habitat Supporters that are current Oryana members to stop by and vote starting Thursday, March 1st. The voting wraps up in the beginning of April. In order to vote you must be an Oryana member.

Glen's Gives Back

Spartan Stores, Inc is partnering again with Habitat for Humanity and is providing their customers a chance to connect with local Habitats. Starting February19th through March 10th, Glen's will provide an opportunity for people to scan a donation for Habitat. All local donations will stay in Grand Traverse Region. You will recieve coupons when you donate, for Glens Market.

Reynolds Family Home Dedication

We started with an empty lot and now it is transforming into a beautiful home for the Reynolds Family in Kalkaska. We invite you to celebrate with us as we dedicate this home, share the inspring stories of how it transformed, and bless the home.
