Online Safety Training!
This course is a very effective training tool for volunteers prior to volunteer day. It's easy to use… takes just 30 minutes to complete… and empowers you with the safety knowledge you need to be an effective part of your Habitat home build. Upon completion of the online course, the Habitat affiliate you are volunteering for will receive a certificate of completion for their records.

Volunteer Forms
IF YOU ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 18, PLEASE NOTE…
A parent or legal guardian MUST fill out all necessary paperwork for a minor volunteer. All necessary paperwork must be on file with the affiliate PRIOR to the minor volunteering in any capacity with the organization.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR THE PARENTS OF A MINOR VOLUNTEER!
It is also now a requirement from Habitat International that all forms for a minor volunteer be notarized.
Ways to Volunteer
Group Construction
It's all about building homes! Bring your group (no matter how small or big) to the construction site or our warehouse to help build a home. Working with your group as a team in the Habitat setting is a great way to build camaraderie. All skill levels welcome!
Individual Construction
Volunteer building opportunities are generally offered Tuesdays and Saturdays and no experience is necessary. Build with us today!
Special Projects/Committees
Throughout the year, Habitat-GTR requires the help of some special volunteers to work on projects who possess skills in photography, event planning and organization. Special projects and committees are a great position for those who want to get involved but have a special skill they can share.
ReStore
Our ReStore is located in Traverse City and is open Monday-Saturday, providing a range of volunteer opportunities. The ReStore is a retail outlet store that stocks gently used home decorating and improvement products at discounts of 50-75% off retail prices. The ReStore presents a great opportunity to work inside but without the restraints of a desk. Youth
Think you are too young to help? Think again!
There are many ways you can help people in the Grand Traverse area. Habitat's youth programs seek to engage young people and involve them as leaders in the work of Habitat for Humanity-Grand Traverse Region. Get involved today!
Building Age Restrictions:
Under 14 years of age: not allowed on site during any phase of construction.
14-15 years old: allowed to participate in painting, landscaping and clean up near the end of the house build; must have one adult supervisor per youth.
16-17 years old: allowed to participate in some construction work; must have one adult supervisor per 4 youth. Youth may not participate in the use of power tools, excavation, demolition or working on rooftops until the age of 18.
Any age: Young volunteers are encouraged to get involved in fundraising efforts. Have a bake sale, a car wash…get creative. Habitat-GTR can help you with ideas!
Administrative
While Habitat is most well known for volunteer-built homes, it is the administrative office that makes it all happen. For those that want to get involved but would prefer an office environment, we need your help! Administrative volunteer opportunities can range from stuffing envelopes and database entry to specialized projects.
